How is discipline handled?

YMCA staff model positive behavior such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in order to teach these behaviors to children. Staff members communicate clear definitions of acceptable and unacceptable behavior and set reasonable limits. Effective discipline helps a child feel secure and develop self-discipline. Consequences are imposed for inappropriate behavior. Time-out is used when a child's behavior is disruptive or if a child disregards program rules. If taking time-out does not correct the problem, further counseling with leadership staff will take place. If necessary, parents will be called for a conference. The YMCA reserves the right to dismiss any child whose behavior is consistently disruptive or interferes with program delivery or the best interest of other children. The YMCA does not condone corporal punishment or inappropriate language. Please also feel free to view our discipline corrective action form.
